In August we opened Baithak at the DOJO with sarangi and tabla, and a room in Kensal Rise that listened closely. The second sitting is on Saturday 28 November, and will feature acclaimed Sarod instrumentalist, Debasmita Bhattacharya in the intimate baitakh format. She will be accompanied by one of the UK's leading and veteran tabla players, Gurdain Rayatt.
SAROD
A disciple of Padma Bhushan Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta and trained from an early age by her father Pandit Debasish Bhattacharya, Debasmita represents one of the most respected lineages in Hindustani classical music, the Senia Shahjahanpur Gharana of sarod. Her performances are marked by technical clarity, brilliant aesthetic flair, sensitivity and an ability to connect deeply with audiences across cultures, whilst staying true to her traditional classical roots
TABLA
Gurdain Rayatt is regarded as one of the leading tabla players in the UK and is a disciple of Pandit Yogesh Samsi, having earlier received taleem from Pandit Shankar Ghosh and his father, Ustad Harkirat Rayatt. He has been fortunate to accompany distinguished artists including Pandit Birju Maharaj, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and Ustad Shahid Parvez to name a few.
Gurdain has performed at prestigious platforms including the Royal Albert Hall, Darbar Festival, WOMAD and the Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan, alongside an active career as a performer and teacher in the UK and internationally.
